The Maceration Process: Why Lucky Stash Is Naturally Green

Illustration of a vintage-style botanist in a lab coat holding a flask filled with glowing green liquid, surrounded by herbs, leaves, limes, and aloe, representing the botanical maceration process that gives tequila its natural green color.

At first glance, Lucky Stash stands out for its unmistakable green hue. However, this color isn’t added, dyed, or engineered—it’s earned. Instead, the green tone emerges naturally through a meticulous maceration process that sits at the very heart of how Lucky Stash is crafted. From start to finish, this process takes between five and eight months.

This is where flavor, aroma, and identity come together.

What Is Maceration?

At its core, maceration is a natural extraction process that allows botanicals to transfer their properties into tequila through time and contact. Rather than relying on extracts or artificial flavoring, we work with whole plants, seeds, roots, and botanicals.

The process begins with water.

We place the plants, seeds, and roots into a vessel with water, allowing it to open the fibers of each botanical. This step prepares the plant material for extraction. Once the fibers are activated, we introduce alcohol, which then extracts the plants’ natural properties—aromas, flavor compounds, pigments, and essential oils.

This extraction unfolds in two distinct stages.

Stage One: Primary Maceration

During the first stage, the botanicals rest in the water-and-alcohol solution for approximately three months. Throughout this period, the alcohol actively extracts the initial layers of aroma, flavor, color, and botanical character.

Stage Two: Secondary Maceration

After the first stage, the liquid is filtered. The botanicals are then returned to the vessel, and fresh water and alcohol are added once again. This second stage continues the extraction process, allowing deeper layers of aroma, color, and botanical properties to emerge.

At the end of the process, both extractions are combined, creating a layered and complex botanical infusion that defines Lucky Stash’s profile.

A Botanical Infusion, Not a Shortcut

Lucky Stash undergoes maceration with more than 27 carefully selected herbs and botanicals. Each ingredient plays a distinct role, contributing layers of flavor, aroma, and—yes—color. As the botanicals release their compounds through both stages of maceration, chlorophyll and natural plant elements gently tint the tequila, ultimately giving it its signature green tone.

For that reason, the color becomes a visual cue of what’s inside:

  • Real botanicals
  • No artificial coloring
  • No flavor additives

In other words, what you see is exactly what you taste.

Flavor Born From Time

Through extended maceration, tequila absorbs complexity gradually. Herbal notes, subtle bitterness, earthy undertones, and aromatic freshness all develop through long contact between the spirit and the botanicals. We rush nothing. We mask nothing.

As a result, the tequila emerges smooth yet expressive—unconventional, yet balanced.

The Lucky Stash Difference

In a category dominated by clarity and conformity, Lucky Stash deliberately chooses depth and character. The maceration process is more than a production step; it’s a philosophy—one rooted in patience, craftsmanship, and the belief that the best things take time.

So the next time you pour a glass and notice that green glow, remember this: it’s not just color. It’s proof of what happens when tequila is allowed to become something more.
