From Austin With Love: An Open and Urgent Letter to Anyone Who Loves Tequila and Cannabis

Greetings from Austin, TX. A few months ago, we started a new trip, an adventure called Lucky Stash®. Here, in this town, we like to do things boldly, and we’re always looking for new experiences and products. But we also like to keep it weird. This is our recipe for success -or at least for having fun while doing something. That’s how Lucky Stash was born: an idea hidden at the bottom of a drawer gathered with the crumps in our favorite box -that we didn’t remember that we had, to fulfill these plans and roll it down.

So, why tequila and cannabis…

We like tequila: that strong and yet delicious Mexican spirit, full of body and flavor, but also we like fun stories, and memories. We also like hemp, a subproduct that comes from the Cannabis Sativa L, with amazing organoleptic attributes and natural characteristics. So why can’t we enjoy both together; yes tequila and cannabis? We know: tequila mixed drinks aren’t such a novelty. Practically, maybe there is one tequila for every flavor known at the moment. But Lucky Stash is different because it is the first herbal liqueur made with hemp and premium tequila in all the world.

So, we like to share our finding with you and lots of other people. Come, have a seat, and let me tell you a story about a hemp beverage that will change the way you think about tequila and cannabis.

It all begins with green

Green is the color of progress, the one that tells us to keep going, to look forward. It is also a code for cannabis lovers: when you see a green thing, you might be seeing something related to weed. Well, maybe not all the green things you saw during your day are, but at least one or two might be related, like our bottle.

Imagine going to your favorite liquor store, the place where you buy your favorite tequila or beverage. Then, you see a skull at the top of a crystal bottle and a forbidden strike hits you; you feel something is prohibited and therefore a sense of curiosity appears. Suddenly, you will take a closer look, and read the name besides that classic weed image: “Lucky Stash”. It will be love at first sight, trust me.

You might be in Austin at the time. The city will be the perfect stage for this first encounter. You will take without hesitation the bottle of Lucky Stash because this action is going to feel natural: a green bottle with a skull at the top, guarding hemp-infused premium tequila. Everything in its right place.

And then, its all on enjoying the ride…

The trip will be different for each person (considering the miles from the mall, liquor store, or wherever you bought your Lucky Stash, and the place you will try it for the first time). So, when it’s the right time and place for you -with your friends, family, or your own-, remove the skull and use your nose first. The aroma will be intense, a profile highlighting notes of herbal fennel, citrus apple, and caramel. Hey, don’t worry, THAT AROMA is also part of the experience: a delicate Kush, complex but not overwhelming, that awakens your appetite.

Now is time for the first touch: with a medium alcoholic profile, Granny Smith taste, balanced bittersweet sensation. At first sight, it has a fresh and subtle OG-Kush Type aftertaste, and cooked agave balances the flavors: the first and perfect joint between tequila and cannabis.

In the end, you will be part of a new club, full of proudly weirdos and bold people, who love to be themselves, enjoy new experiences, color green, and from now on, Lucky Stash.

Are you in?

A guide to “enjoint” a perfect 4/20

The time has come for you to get around with your friends and praise a secret code. An ancient formula, a mythical language that, as years go by, is giving the right message to the right people. You can see it in a watch, in a bus stop, in a sign while coming back home, in the back of your favorite cereal box, in your computer, in the newspaper, in every place where numbers are telling you that every moment is the perfect moment to “enjoint” life.

But in a calendar, there is also a specific date. A date that has made these secret messages crystal clear for all of us: 4/20. So, in order to make the best of this special day, Lucky Stash has some advice for you. You can call it “steps”, to have a nice trip:

The beginning of 4/20

Every community has its own history, its own narrative, a moment when it all began. 4/20 people is no exception. The official date? 1971. The place? San Rafael, Northern California. The main characters? A group of friends that called themselves “Waldos”, who started a journey together to the first 420 Holy Gray, exactly at 4:20, during a special day. They never found it, of course, but their legends remain, and also the search for it.

Be cautious

We are not giving a lecture or something like that, but a 4/20 warrior knows its own limits. First of all, select the variant -or sword ;)- that fits your strength. Some people like a more peaceful journey, and others a more epic one. Remember: there is a path meant to be yours.

High and dry

You will need lots of water during this day because you will talk, you will laugh and, of course, you’ll trip. Always have a bottle close to you, and watch out for a friend that may seem to have a dry 4/20 experience. You will also need food for the journey’s finale, but, as important as it is, maybe it should have its own time.

A selected 4/20 menu

We all were there, in front of our fridges, without knowing what to do, what to take, what to taste. Sometimes these moments end up as some choices that, in a different date or mind state, might be a little bit nasty. So, the best way to create a 4/20 menu is mixing up two main concepts: simplicity and deliciousness. Basic snacks can be a good start, but you might need a main course: think about  it before 4/20 -maybe the day before, because it might not last for too many days or hours even ;)- , and please, save it for the last moments of the day. It is also important that whatever is on your menu, its not cooked or heated, because playing with fire is not the best idea during 4/20.

Traditions are the best time to try new things

4/20 is the best moment to try new things… and find a Lucky Stash. No, we are not talking about the bottom of your drawer, but it is something similar. At Lucky Stash we always have the 4/20 people in our minds, the ones that are bold and creative and try new adventures. And also, those who always share the best moments with their friends. During this 4/20, we’d like to be part of every circle, of every toast. We’d like to be THE 4/20 TEQUILA, from Austin to the world. Knowing that this community is the best example that taking a trip once in a while is a nice way to enjoy life.

Its about the best with the best

No, we don’t need geography lessons. This is not about colorful maps but cultural encounters, mixing the best with the best. There are almost 900 miles between the town where tequila is born, and the city where some of the weirder and bolder people in the world come to play. So how can we relate Austin, Texas, and Jalisco be related?

First of all, let us talk about the elephant in the room. Some centuries ago, Texas was part of Mexico’s territory. Politics aside, this might be the first sign of likeness: some tangible frontiers were redrawn at that moment, but maybe some cultural, traditional ones, have remained.

Well, let us return to our present after this journey to the past (history lessons are always very welcomed). Here’s another fact; Austinites love tequila ever since the first bottle was opened lots of years ago, let us say. In the US, tequila is the fifth favorite drink, and you know it is a strong one. You need to respect it, taste it, but it is essential for any party because, let’s be honest, without tequila shots, a party isn’t much of a party.

Why Austin?

Now, without noticing it, we found a keyword in all these charades: “party”. Austin is THE place to party in Texas, and Tequila, Jalisco, offers the main ingredient for them: tequila. Parties are also THE chance to meet people from all over the world, to know what they like, their hopes and dreams… Parties are the place where major cultural mixing takes place. For instance, in 1948, Margaret Sames invented the Margaritas at a party in Acapulco, giving tequila a new form, a new flavor, a new way to be enjoyed. But now, in 2021, Austinites took the next step in this relationship between the US and tequila.

Your New Austin Tequila

Patience, friends, we’re getting to the main point. Culture is the result of mixing the traditions of different sources, and we are all part of this sort of blend called “the world”. In Austin, we love tequila in its purest form. Its tasteful agave notes and strong body, but we also like to mix it, giving it, as Margaret did some decades ago, a new form, a new name.

Our creation: Lucky Stash. The main result of this “cultural romance” -as we were saying- between Austin and Tequila, Jalisco. A bold and kind of weird way of drinking tequila. The real and first Austinite tequila, a combination of two of the main things we love: hemp and this amazing traditional Mexican drink.

Lucky Stash is a love letter from Austin to tequila lovers and Mexico in general; a way of saying that, no matter the distance, we are still, in some essential forms, together.

This Holidays Discover the New Norm of Tequila and Cannabis

When tequila and cannabis come together to create the best herbal liqueur

Some things work better together: like chocolate and peanut butter, or tequila and cannabis. Lucky Stash’s blend is the result of a macerated formula with the best tequila, and a lucky touch: hemp, which comes from the Cannabis Sativa family. But who thought about this weird and yet interesting mix, and how that results in a weird and bold herbal liqueur? Let’s find out.

The harvest

Like every other invention, this one started with a plan, or, even better, with a recipe. To create Lucky Stash you need three main ingredients: Tequila Blanco, hemp, and a selection of different herbs. Next, there is a three-step process: first, we planted high-quality agave to produce premium tequila; then some botanical experts picked  the best herbs and macerate them until they had a perfect consistency. Finally, it’s time to blend the master formula with the tequila and add the “lucky touch”: hemp. Natural terpenes are the key to reaching the amazing Lucky Stash flavor and aroma, and one of the highest quality by-products that evokes the characteristics of that magnificent and emblematic weed.

What is this all about?

But, are we talking about tequila drink or herbal liquor? Strictly, Lucky Stash is a liqueur: the main difference between a liquor and a liqueur is that, while liquor has a strong flavor to it that is anything but sweet, liqueur, on the other hand, is sweet by nature. This term is used to describe these sweetened spirits that are made with different flavors and extracts, such as this one.

The lucky touch

Let’s talk about Lucky Stash’s original touch. Lots of people know how tequila tastes: it is a strong and yet delicious Mexican spirit. There is no big mystery here. But what about hemp? In botanical terms, hemp and marijuana are part of the same plant species. Nature doesn’t distinguish between the two, but we do. Hemp is cannabis that contains 0.3 percent or less THC content by dry weight. THC, short for tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical in cannabis that makes people feel stoned. Because hemp contains so little THC, it can’t make you feel that way. So, the answer to the big question is: Lucky Stash is a key driver to create memorable experiences through great cocktails, music, friendship, and uniqueness above all, but not necessarily by getting you high.

The secret plan to this outstanding herbal liqueur

All processes, blends, and ingredients behind Lucky Stash have a main objective: encourage the bold ones to “keep it weird”. Especially during Holiday Season, the perfect moment to try something new. Imagine yourself arriving at a party or family reunion with a bottle of Lucky Stash, a weird skull trophy-like sculpture full of a green potion that could turn festivities more fun and green in an Austinite way.

You can still roll it, but now you can mix it.

So, you decided to be part of this Lucky Stash herbal liqueur circle? We like to share with you some good tips. The first one is that you can drink this liqueur in many different ways. The easiest one to try  Lucky Stash is simply to add ice to a glass, some tonic water, and a lemon twist. Other Lucky Stash’s signature cocktails can be ready in just a matter of seconds: add some sparkling wine, ice, Lucky Stash, and then relax and enjoy the ride during these festivities.

Lucky Stash® can be enjoyed on the rocks or in easy to make cocktails and it is available at Specs , Total Wine, Twin Liquors, and liquor stores near you.

1. The Beautiful Blue Agave Plant

Another key point about tequila is that it´s bаѕісаllу mаdе frоm the bluе аgаvе plant, a type оf ѕuссulеnt оr wаtеr-rеtаіnіng рlаnt еndеmіс to Jаlіѕсо, Mеxісо. This plant is unique among many others, and this is something that makes tequila a must wanted product nowadays. An example for this is that the plant takes between seven to eight years to mature. Only then it is ready for the “jimadores” thоѕе whо harvest thе аgаvе ріnеаррlеѕ, to cut the leaves of the agave plant and proceed to the manufacture of this delicious spirit.

Thе rісh vоlсаnіс ѕоіl оf Jаlіѕсо and other seven states that form the geographic region for it´s manufacture, іѕ раrtісulаrlу соnduсіvе fоr the hеаlthу grоwth оf thіѕ рlаnt. Thе juісе of thе аgаvе іѕ uѕuаllу drаnk bу mоѕt Mеxісаnѕ; it іѕ еіthеr made аѕ pulque, a fеrmеntеd drіnk or tеԛuіlа, thе distilled lіԛuоr реорlе аll оvеr thе wоrld lоvе.

2. It´s Not The One With The Worm

Mеzсаl іѕ thе one wіth the wоrm. In рорulаr сulturе іn thе Unіtеd States, drіnkіng tеԛuіlа іѕ оftеn аѕѕосіаtеd wіth “thе wоrm” аt thе bоttоm оf a bоttlе. However, mоѕt tеquіlаѕ, whісh аrе mаdе frоm thе bluе аgаvе рlаnt, dо nоt іnсludе a wоrm іn the fіnіѕhеd bоttlеѕ. Onlу Mеzсаl, whісh іѕ a lіԛuоr mаdе frоm аnу оf thе оthеr 250+ fоrmѕ оf thе аgаvе plant, trаdіtіоnаllу іnсludеѕ a wоrm. Mezcals from Espadin Agave, Tobala Agave and Madre Cuishe are the most common on the market right now. Some соmраnіеѕ do аdd thе caterpillar оf thе mаguеу wоrm tо thеіr finished bottles. This will рrоduce mіld сhеmісаl сhаngеѕ thаt ѕоmе соnѕumеrѕ mау fіnd highly desirable. Interesting fact huh? So now you know, whenever you find a worm in your bottle or drink its probably not tequila.

3. The Process: A Very Emblematic One

Thе рlаntіng, tеndіng аnd hаrvеѕtіng оf thе аgаvе соntіnuе tо bе manual. Sресіаllу thе hаrvеѕtіng, whісh dаtеѕ bасk hundrеdѕ оf уеаrѕ, unаffесtеd bу nеw tесhnоlоgіеѕ. Harvesting knоwlеdgе аnd ѕkіllѕ аrе рrеѕеrvеd аnd раѕѕеd оn thrоugh gеnеrаtіоnѕ by thе jіmаdоrеѕ. They also continue to use the stone made ovens to cook the agave plant and also mаnу соmраnіеѕ mаnufасturіng tеԛuіlа ѕtіll uѕе thе trаdіtіоnаl mеthоdѕ оf pressing оut аnd fеrmеntіng the juісе frоm thеѕе ріnеаррlеѕ. The process of making tequila is definitely a very crafty one. So if you ever have a chance to visit a tequila factory, dont even hesitate on doing so.

4. Types of Tequila You Need To Know

Something that makes tequila one of the favorites spirits nowadays is the culture behind it. As a matter of fact, tequila has three variants; blanco, reposado and añejo. In the first place, tequila blanco never goes into a barrel. It is bottled right after the distillation process. On the other hand, reposado and añejo are put in barrels from quite some time. Reposado, between three and nine months and añejo for more than nine months. Not to forget that if you are lucky enough, you may found an extra añejo tequila. This, is one of my favorites and goes for more than 3 years into the barrel.

5. How To Drink Your Tequila

An interesting thing to know, and something that every connossieur must know is how to drink tequila. Yes, the “how” is very important with this spirit. Whеn your ѕhоt оf tеԛuіlа іѕ іn frоnt оf уоu, gіvе іt a ѕwіrl аnd ѕtісk уоur nоѕе rіght into thе glаѕѕ. Smеll thе соmрlеxіtу оf thіѕ drink, іnhаlе its hіѕtоrу. Then, tаkе a tіnу аmоunt іntо уоur mouth аnd swill іt аrоund, соvеrіng уоur tоnguе аnd gumѕ. Thіѕ lеtѕ уоur bоdу knоw whаt’ѕ соmіng аnd gіvеѕ іt a сhаnсе tо рrераrе fоr the, аdmіttеdlу strong, flаvоur аnd аlсоhоl соntеnt. If уоu dо thіѕ, уоu’ll thеn bе аblе tо drіnk thе rеѕt оf your ѕhоt ѕlоwlу. And don´t forget to try Lucky Stash, our hemp-infused tequila!

5 Things You Need to Know About Hemp

We’ve combined two beautiful things and created a hemp infused tequila to bring you an experience like no other. Hemp has been around for too long, but its popularity has been increasing in the past years. The difference between hemp and marijuana its not much, but their worlds could definitely be quite different.

Hemp is one of the most exciting plants at the moment. The seeds and flowers are packed with health benefits, and the crop itself can be used to create many kinds of eco-friendly products. It felt only obvious to infuse tequila with the magic of hemp and other botanicals to create a unique and delicious liqueur.

Interested in learning more? Here’s what you need to know about hemp.

1. Hemp and marijuana are technically the same plant

In terms of botany, hemp and marijuana are literally the same species of plant. Nature doesn’t distinguish between the two, but the law does.

Legally, hemp is cannabis that contains 0.3 percent or less THC content by dry weight.

THC, short for tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical in cannabis that makes you feel intoxicated – that is, high. Because hemp contains so little THC, it can’t make you feel intoxicated.

The Agricultural Act of 2018 and other laws draw the line at 0.3 percent – but it’s a fairly arbitrary number. This figure was proposed in The Species Problem in Cannabis: Science & Semantics, a book written by Ernest Small and published in 1979. Small explained that it was difficult to distinguish between hemp and cannabis because there’s no real difference. Small proposed the 0.3 percent rule as a solution.

So, while hemp and marijuana are the same species of plant, marijuana can get you high while hemp cannot.

2. Hemp is legal in more places around the world

Although hemp can’t get you intoxicated, it’s not legal in all countries. That is, however, slowly changing.

For example, hemp is totally legal in the US and in many European countries. The 2018 Farm Bill made it legal to grow hemp throughout the US. It also made hemp-derived CBD products legal to manufacture, sell, and use. So don´t be surprised if in your future journey you find our hemp infused tequila in the liquor store´s shelves.

3. Hemp contains CBD

The hemp flower (also called the bud) is rich in CBD. CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is one of the many chemicals found in hemp and cannabis plants. It’s a popular health product at the moment because it’s associated with numerous health benefits.

CBD is often used for:

  • Stress and anxiety
  • Sleep issues (like insomnia)
  • Pain and inflammation
  • Skin conditions (like acne)
  • Seizure conditions

While there needs to be more research on the benefits of CBD before we fully understand it, the current studies are promising. Many people use CBD daily for health reasons.

4. Hemp seed is associated with numerous health benefits

Hemp seeds are popular health foods. While hemp seeds only contain trace amounts of CBD, they pack a health punch all on their own. Rich in omega fatty acids and vitamins, hemp seeds can be added to a salad or sandwich, or added to a smoothie in oil form.

5. Hemp is an eco-friendly plant

Hemp isn’t just good for creating health products. It can be used to make eco-friendly products, including:

  • Rope
  • Paper
  • Textiles
  • Animal feed
  • Biofuel
  • Building materials (like “hempcrete”)
  • Biodegradable plastic

Hemp is a great alternative to other crops (like cotton) and trees. This is partly because hemp requires very little water to grow and it naturally repels insects, making it easy to grow without using harmful pesticides. It also grows to maturity fast, which means that more products can be produced in less time and using less space.

What’s more is that multiple parts of the hemp plant can be used, including the flower, stalks, seeds, leaves, and more. No part of the hemp plant needs to be discarded. This means that hemp is a low-waste crop to produce.

For this reason, many environmentally conscious consumers are opting for hemp clothing, paper, and fabrics.
